Russel Nicholas Albert, born February 10, 1932, and born into eternal life on Saturday, May 23, 2026, was a man whose humor, heart, and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Russel is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn “Kitty” (Shuga), with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. He is also survived by his daughter Colleen (Steve) Barker. He was an amazing dad who blessed Colleen’s life with his steady presence, quick wit, and endless love, as well as a wonderful father- in-law. He was a loving uncle to a myriad of nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A proud Korean War veteran, Russel served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. His dedication to service continued throughout his life through his active involvement with both the VFW and the American Legion, where he found fellowship, purpose, and a lasting bond with his fellow veterans.
After working many years as a machinist at Robert A. Johnston’s in Milwaukee, Russel realized his dream of business ownership when he purchased Ye Olde Pub in Coleman, Wisconsin. He and Kathy pulled up stakes, moved north, and became beloved pub keepers — a role he truly relished.
Russel found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments. He loved spending time on the water, watching his beloved birds and squirrels, and bringing laughter to those around him with his dad jokes, puns, and wonderfully nonsensical turns of phrase. His humor was uniquely his own, and those who loved him will forever smile remembering the little bits of silliness that made him truly unforgettable.
To Russel, it was practically sacrilege to pass a rummage sale, flea market, or thrift shop without stopping to peruse its charms in search of unusual salt and pepper shakers and other assorted gee-gaws. He was a collector of many things — cuckoo clocks, German beer steins, orange glass, and anything else that happened to strike his whimsy.
Russel was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Raymond, Gordon, Gerri, and Ruth. Though he is now reunited with those who went before him, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Town of Brazeau Rescue Squad and Aurora Medical Center–Green Bay for their wonderful care. Special thanks to caregiver extraordinaire Nichole Konkel, whose loving, compassionate care over the last two years has made her forevermore family to us. Another huge thank you to our ‘above and beyond’ neighbors, Ron and Lori Szwet, for their help and support.
Russel’s life was one of love, service, humor, and quiet appreciation for the world around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
