Jane Monnette Hinds, oldest daughter of Alphonse and Glorianna Monnette, has passed away peacefully on 12/27/2025 in her home - she was 88 years old. Jane worked as a schoolteacher after graduating in 1959 from the University of Cincinnati, from which she received her Bachelor of Education. In 1962 she married Bob Hinds and had two children (Robert and Jonathan). They moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1969, three years after the birth of their oldest child. In Birmingham, she gained notoriety by being active in social societies and was an influential force in AAUW, the Birmingham Rose Society, the Birmingham Opera Guild and was a strong advocate of Planned Parenthood. She was known for her education, intelligence and giving nature.

Roses were Janes' passion. Having grown up on a farm in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, Jane had a great understanding of how to grow things. She frequently grew her own food to feed her family in the 70's and 80's but once she found flowers, specifically roses, she grew mostly that. Being an avid rose aficionado, her knowledge grew into a hobby, and she enjoyed sharing it with others. She joined the Birmingham Rose Society and was an active member and often President of the association for a number of years; Her gardens were always filled with the best variety of beautifully scented roses.

Her parents had 18 children, and although she outlived many of them (Bob, Clyde, Alphonse Jr, Richard, Dean and Barbara Jean), she is survived by numerous others: Donna Behnke, Judy Seelbach, Wayne Monnette, Beverly Monnette, Dale Monnette (Angie), Terry Monnette (Diana), Randy Monnette (Rhea), Mark Monnette (Colene), Lamont Monnette, Margaret Biddy (Jack) and Paul Monnette (Courtney). She also is survived by her two children, Robert and Jon Hinds, and her grandchildren
(Jonathan, Christina, Nikita, Ryan, Daniel, Nicholas and Grace Hinds). She has five great-grandchildren - Ella Jane, Jonathan Junior, Braxton, Ember Rose and Maxwell Hinds. Because of her dedication to the furtherance of science, she has graciously donated her body to the local university to be used by the students for educational study.
