Girard “Sarge” P. Rudell, 83, of Marinette passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at home. He was born on August 18, 1942, to the late John and Alice (Girard) Rudell in Wausau, WI. He was known as Sarge from the day he was born. A nurse in the OB Ward said he was her “little Sarge” since his dad was a Staff Sergeant in the war. Sarge graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1961 and obtained his Marketing Degree from NTC. He worked for Channel 9 Wausau as a photographer for a number of years. On August 19, 1967, Sarge married Joanne Doede in Wausau. In 1969, they moved to Marinette where he took a job with Ansul as a photographer for the Fire School. He later worked over 30 years with the Marinette Water Department. Sarge enjoyed being around people socializing, his interests show that well. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he helped to bring Communion to home bound members. He also was a former member of the BAMC Auxiliary, Elks, JayCees, American Legion, and had his group of coffee clutchers. His time spent in the JayCees was like a large extended family where he received many awards for his dedicated service. Sarge also enjoyed bowling, and spending time with his family, especially his brother in law, Bob.

Sarge is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne Rudell of Marinette; brother, Steve (SO Jan Dolloff) Rudell of Wausau; sisters, Penny Hurlbert of Antigo, Johnna Rudolfer of Central Islip, NY and Chrissy Rudell of Davis, CA; aunt, Anne-Marie Rudell of Grand Rapids, MI; brother in law, Bob (Susan) Doede of Wausau; many nieces, nephews, especially: Adam (Kristin) Doede, Erin (Brandon) Lauersdorf, and Sarah (Ben) Norman; cousins, and close friend, Peter Razardi. In addition to his parents, John Rudell and Alice (Don) Clark, he was preceded in death by brothers in law, Richard Hurlbert and Rudy Rudolfer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
