Charles M. Scholtz, 93, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, and while our hearts are heavy, we are thankful he is no longer suffering and now home with the Lord. He was affectionately nicknamed “Oz” by his wife, and all that knew him well did too. He was born in Marinette to Elizabeth (Knuth) and C. David Scholtz. Charles attended Marinette schools, graduating from Marinette High School in 1951. He entered the service, serving in the Coast Guard aboard the USCG Bibb stationed in Boston, MA. He married his high school sweetheart, Jean Munch, at Porterfield Lutheran Church in 1953. Charles attended Patterson School of Engineering in Boston after he left the Coast Guard.

He returned to the Marinette area and he took a job with Interstate Welding driving truck, eventually achieving the “Million Miler” Club and continued to log more than 3 million miles. He retired from there as the fill plant manager after 42 years. He was a member of the Porterfield Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 432. Charles had a passion for woodworking and sharing and gifting his beautiful wood projects with many friends and relatives. A piece of his heart is displayed in many homes. He had fun hiding these wooden projects in homes for them to find at a later time.

Charles enjoyed nature and the outdoors and feeding the wildlife. He loved to tinker. He was always designing and building things.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean (Munch) Scholtz of 70 years; and an infant daughter, Terri.

Charles is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Scholtz and one daughter, Toni (Henry) Johnston; along with grandchildren, Charles Scholtz, Anthony Scholtz, Tricia (Steve) Bardin, Melissa Johnston, Melanie Corey and fiancé, Shane Lamon, and Matthew (Ashley) Johnston; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Levi, Tucker, Emma, Ethan and fiancé, Mady, Brianna, Rylynn, Sawyer, Olivia and Wyatt; step-great-grandchildren, Jazmin and Landen; and bonus great-grandchildren, Jackson, Brady, Kayden, Jettson and Kensley.

A private memorial will be held by the family.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Rennes West and Moments Hospice for their kindness.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home for their thoughtful service.
