Wheel Hike Together offers adaptive hiking for all

Posted

CRIVITZ – Wheel Hike Together is an adaptive hiking event that provides the use of all-terrain tracked wheelchairs to any individual who is unable to traverse a trail on their own.

Participants can reserve chairs to hike trails and explore the fall beauty of Thunder Mountain Overlook Park with family and friends.

Wheel Hike Together aims to provide an opportunity for those with disabilities, injuries or illnesses of any kind to be able to get out and explore the outdoors and the beauty of Marinette County Parks.

All-terrain wheelchairs are motorized on a track system, allowing these machines to easily maneuver over exposed roots, small rocks, hills, valleys and other obstacles typically found along a trail.

These wheelchairs also come with a variety of customizable features, including harnesses for trunk support, left-handed or right-handed controls and companion controls for those who are unable or would like someone else to drive the chair for them. These features allow for an additional level of comfort and ease of use that fit each participant’s needs.

This event takes place at Thunder Mountain Overlook Park, which is located at W14000 Thunder Mountain Rd., approximately 17 miles northwest of Crivitz. This park offers three miles of mowed, well-marked hiking trails and scenic views of western Marinette County.

During Wheel Hike Together, the park will remain open to other park visitors, including those participating in Marinette County’s Fall Color Tour.

Wheel Hike Together is coordinated by Marinette County’s Parks & Facilities Department, Development & Tourism Department and Aging & Disability Resource Center as well as Options for Independent Living, a non-profit dedicated to supporting independence for people with disabilities through advocacy, education and services.

All-terrain wheelchairs for the event are provided courtesy of ATZ Manufacturing, Options for Independent Living, and Half Moon Outdoors. Coordinators extended an extra thank you to sponsors Rennes Group and Kwik Trip for their donation of snacks for participants.
