MENOMINEE, MICH. – While the West Bagley Homemakers, dba The Homemakers, have become known all around Marinette, the Upper Peninsula and Menominee, Mich., areas for their growing and expanding career fairs, they were also instrumental in launching and seeing their Trade and Technical Career Scholarship program flourish in these areas.
In 2022, The Homemakers witnessed the devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the trade and technical professions. They took the initiative and started fundraising to provide scholarships to students from Carney-Nadeau High School and Stephenson High School who were entering these professions.
Over the years, they participated in flea markets, held rummage sales and hosted Bingo games along with a spaghetti dinner and solicited funds from community members.
Once again, these fundraising efforts have given The Homemakers the privilege of awarding Trade and Technical School Scholarships to three students from Carney-Nadeau High School and seven students from Stephenson High School. Each scholarship was in the amount of $500.00.
The Carney-Nadeau High School recipients included Dalten Wagner, Miles Tickler and Elodie Lenca. The Stephenson High School recipients included Kaycee Beal, Kora Beaudo, Cassandra Engel, Lucas Havelka, Christian Klein, Cheyanne Palzewicz and Asher Priebe.
Due to their efforts and launching this major program, The Homemakers have been able to provide 33 students over the past four years with scholarships designated to enter a technical/trade school program or apprenticeship for hire. In its first year, one business alone hired three students to be apprentice electricians, a welder and more.
The Homemakers’ commitment to promoting the trade and technical opportunities in the community is now being expanded upon by other groups in our local areas.
Trade and technical professionals are needed in everyone’s daily lives. For more information on how to support students entering these professions, contact wbagleyhomemakers@yahoo.com or leave a voicemail at (715) 938-0443.
