Peshtigo Lions Club learns from No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue

PESHTIGO – The Peshtigo Lions Club welcomed a special team of four-legged search specialists and their handlers at the club’s monthly meeting at The Grate on Monday, Sept. 14.

Troy and Sarah, presenters from No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue, shared information about the organization’s work assisting law enforcement agencies and families with search and recovery efforts. They were accompanied by three highly trained dogs, each involved in search and rescue and/or human remains identification.

The presentation provided Lions members with an up-close look at how specially trained K9s can assist in locating missing individuals. As part of the demonstration, the dogs were presented with a piece of clothing belonging to a person. After examining the article, the dogs demonstrated their ability to use scent to identify and locate that individual.

The demonstration offered a firsthand look at the specialized training and abilities of search-and-rescue dogs and the important role they can play when people are missing.

According to the organization, No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting law enforcement and families in search and recovery efforts. Their teams include highly trained K9, dive and drone personnel who work to help bring answers and closure to families facing the uncertainty of a missing loved one.

For the Peshtigo Lions, the program was another opportunity to learn about an organization serving a vital community need. Lions Clubs are built around the principle of service, with clubs responding to needs in their communities through volunteer efforts and partnerships.

By learning about organizations such as No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue, Lions members gain a greater understanding of the many ways individuals and teams can work together to serve others.
