Hope Squad promotes positive mental health

Posted

OCONTO – The Oconto High School (OHS) Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program helping students who are struggling with their mental health while also building a sense of community within our school.

The Hope Squad also hosted its first Walk-n-Talk where the entire school went outside and walked the track while Hope Squad members handed out popsicles and walked with their peers while engaging in meaningful conversations.

Their new program Pizza with Peers is up and running. This is a mix-it-up at lunch where peers can meet new people helping to form a more positive community within the school.

A special thanks goes out to Jack Karban and the staff at Brothers Three for making and delivering the pizzas every Friday, the OHS Booster Club for supporting this initiative, Ellyson Place and Claire Notz for creating a bright bulletin board display and to the amazing staff at OHS who volunteer to join the students.

Next up, the Hope Squad will hold Peer-2-Peer discussions during advisory time. This year’s topic is emotional intelligence (EQ) and understanding what’s under the surface.
