Jerry Van De Laarschot, age 77, of Peshtigo, passed away on June 4, 2026 at 11:02 pm, after a life marked by hard work, faith, devotion to family, and a gift for making those around him feel welcome. He was born on September 29, 1948, at 8:20 pm, in Menominee, Michigan, and carried the values of his hometown with him throughout his life. Jerry lived with a steady spirit and a strong sense of purpose, and he was known for his honesty, his humor, and the kind of presence that could fill a room. He was a Christian man whose faith provided comfort, direction, and strength through the many seasons of his life.

Jerry’s work life began at a hometown grocery store, Mel’s IGA, where he learned the value of service, responsibility, and showing up each day with a good attitude. That early experience laid the foundation for a remarkable career in the food industry. Carpenter Cook Company hired Jerry as a produce phone sales representative, and through his dedication, work ethic, and larger than life personality, he quickly rose through the ranks to become president of the company. He was the kind of leader people respected because he led by example, worked hard, and treated others with fairness and integrity. When Carpenter Cook closed its doors and later reopened as Fairway Foods, Jerry remained part of its growth and success. Under changing times and changing ownership, he continued to give his best, helping the company become highly successful. Later in his career, the company became Great Lakes Foods, where Jerry eventually retired in 2016. His professional life was a testimony to perseverance, loyalty, and the ability to adapt while never losing the personal touch that made him so effective and so well liked.

Jerry was blessed with a loving family who meant the world to him. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Holly, who stood beside him through life’s joys and challenges. He also leaves behind his daughter, Amy Baum, and her husband Justin with their two children Lauren and Julia. Along with his son, Andy Van De Laarschot, and his wife Nicole and children Aidan, Ava and Jaxon. His family was a source of great pride and joy, and he treasured the time he spent with them. He found happiness in the simple and meaningful moments of life, especially those shared with the people he loved most.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Dorothy Van De Laarschot, his step mother Laura (Tonn) VanDeLaarschot and his sister Carol Van De Laarschot.

He was a proud man, but never too proud to laugh at himself or tell a story that might have grown a little more colorful with each telling. Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he appreciated the peace and beauty of the outdoors. His adventures to Wyoming and Canada with his devoted friends were treasured. He also loved spending time with family and friends, where his warm personality and easy conversation made him a natural storyteller. Many will remember his stories, his laughter, and the way he could make ordinary moments feel memorable. He had a special way of sharing a tale (once or twice) with just enough humor to make everyone smile, even when the truth had been exaggerated a bit.

Jerry’s life reflected the values of faith, family, and honest hard work. He understood that a good life is built not only on accomplishments, but also on kindness, consistency, and the love we show one another. He was a man who took his responsibilities seriously, but who also knew how to enjoy life and appreciate the blessings God had given him. His example will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Friday June 12th from 8:00 A.M. until time of mass 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary church Peshtigo. Mass will be celebrated by Father Michael Lightner. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery immediately following.
