This week, Behind the Blotter with the Peshtigo Times dives into reports from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Marinette Police Department and City of Menominee Police Department regarding drug arrests, traffic accidents, burglary, animal attacks and more that occurred between Aug. 28 and Oct. 2.
Menominee County Sheriff’s Office incident summary: August 28 - September 9
August 28
A deputy was dispatched to US 41 in Mellen Township at 1:46 p.m. for a missing license plate; the subject reported that the new owner of a vehicle he sold was refusing to return the plate.
A juvenile problem was reported at 3:09 p.m. in Lake Township, where a caller stated her son was out of control and damaging property; the subject was spoken to, and the incident was documented.
A two-vehicle traffic crash occurred at 4:18 p.m. on G-08 in Mellen Township when a vehicle driven by Josh Tuyls, 34, of Menominee, rear-ended a vehicle driven by Greg Melchoir, 57, of Wallace, who was stopped at a railroad crossing. Possible minor injuries were sustained, but both vehicles were drivable.
A two-vehicle traffic crash occurred at 5:09 p.m. on US 41 in Stephenson Township when Tammy Lemens, 65, of Stephenson, attempted to pull out onto the highway but failed to see a vehicle driven by Raelynn Thoune, 69, of Stephenson, due to a vision obstruction. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed.
A juvenile runaway was reported at 9:28 p.m. on Million Dollar Rd. in Menominee Township; the daughter had run away and was picked up by a friend’s mother, and was later returned safely to her mother.
August 29
A deputy contacted a vehicle illegally parked on a street in the City of Menominee at 4:10 a.m., and a 48-year-old Wausaukee man was arrested on a valid warrant for child support and lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
Deputies arrested a 68-year-old Kingsford man at 12:55 p.m. on a valid operating while intoxicated warrant out of 95A District Court of Menominee in Dickinson County, and he was lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
A subject in Lake Township reported missing property at 3:32 p.m., stating he knew who took the property; the incident is under investigation.
Deputies were dispatched to a road rage complaint on M-35 in Ingallston Township at 10:56 p.m. after a caller reported being closely followed and concerned for her safety; a traffic stop was initiated, and a 55-year-old Brooklyn Park, Minn., man was arrested for reckless driving, given a citation and released.
August 31
A deputy was dispatched at 9:48 a.m. to a one-vehicle traffic crash on M-35 in Ingallston Township, where a vehicle driven by Lee Vanrooy, 73, of Cudahy, ran off the roadway into bushes, possibly due to a medical issue. No damage was reported to the vehicle, but Vanrooy was transported to the hospital.
A deputy initiated a traffic stop on US 2 and US 41 in Spalding Township at 11:52 p.m. for suspicion of intoxication, and a 46-year-old Holland, Mich., man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
September 1
A deputy was dispatched to an unoccupied vehicle in the ditch on Pach Lane in Harris Township at 10:46 a.m.; the driver, an 18-year-old Bark River man, was arrested for failure to report an accident and released. The vehicle had significant underbody damage and was towed.
Deputies were dispatched to an unwanted subject at a residence in the City of Stephenson at 11:16 a.m.; the subject willingly left.
A deputy observed a subject in a parking lot in Harris Township at 12:36 p.m., and the 19-year-old Bark River man was found to have a valid domestic assault warrant out of MSP Negaunee Post and was lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
A subject was contacted at 1:25 p.m. regarding a bond violation over the phone in Nadeau Township, where the caller stated she had been contacted by an ex-boyfriend multiple times despite a court order; the incident was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review and possible charges.
A deputy was dispatched at 6:31 p.m. to M-35 in Menominee Township for a report of malicious destruction of property, where a caller was having an issue with someone causing damage to her vehicle; the incident was closed after an investigation.
September 3
A deputy arrested a 36-year-old Hermansville man at 9:05 a.m. in the City of Menominee on a warrant for failure to appear for show cause on an original charge of drunk and disorderly, and he was lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
A deputy was dispatched to a domestic incident on CR 557 in Gourley Township at 12:21 p.m.; an investigation was conducted, the parties were separated and the incident was documented and closed.
A deputy arrested a 54-year-old Kingsford man at 6:20 p.m. in Dickinson County on a warrant for a probation violation on an original charge of possession of methamphetamines, and he was lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
September 4
A deputy was dispatched to US 2 and US 41 in Spalding Township at 8:20 a.m. for a personal protection order violation, where a 39-year-old Escanaba woman violated a court order by showing up at a prohibited location. The woman left before law enforcement arrived, and a report was sent to the prosecutor’s office.
A subject was contacted at 10:04 a.m. regarding missing property in Spalding Township after the caller reported an item was not returned during a child exchange; it was determined to be a civil matter and the incident was closed.
A deputy was requested at 7:29 p.m. to contact a subject on US 41 in Mellen Township to deliver a trespass warning from a business in Escanaba.
September 5
A deputy and fire department were dispatched at 9:23 p.m. to a skid steer fire on Sturgeon Road in Lake Township; no criminal activity was suspected, the fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported. September 7
A deputy arrested a 45-year-old Gladstone man at 6:44 p.m. in Dickinson County on a warrant for failure to appear, and he was lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
September 8
A subject was contacted at 11:56 a.m. regarding a hit-and-run on Rangeline Dr. in Ingallston Township, where the driver’s truck was side-swiped by a trailer on a southbound vehicle that briefly stopped and then drove off; an investigation is ongoing.
September 9
A two-vehicle traffic crash occurred at 10:39 a.m. on US 41 in Menominee Township when a vehicle driven by Ashtyn Smith, 20, of Powers, failed to see a vehicle driven by Michael Harding, 79, of Menominee, attempting a left-hand turn, resulting in disabling damage to Smith’s vehicle. No damage was sustained to Harding’s vehicle, and no injuries were reported.
Deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident on Maple Ln. in Faithorn Township at 4:13 p.m., and an 18-year-old Vulcan man was arrested for domestic assault and lodged at the Menominee County Jail.
A deputy was contacted at 8:13 p.m. regarding a missing tractor on River Rd. in Lake Township; both parties were contacted, and the incident was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

September 22
At 1:29 p.m., a traffic stop on Hall Ave. and Court St. led to the custody of Vincenzo S. Ebbole for misdemeanor bail jumping.
Sebastion Tallman was cited at 7:57 p.m. for possession of THC near Marinette Ave. and Cleveland Ave.
September 23
Taylor Singer reported the theft of a purple iPad mini 6 from 905 Madison Ave. at 11:35 a.m.
A warrant arrest was made at 3:25 p.m. at 326 Hattie St., taking Donovan Westby and Kwrina Cox into custody.
Marc Thornton was taken into custody at 3:59 p.m. on charges of burglary, trespassing to dwelling, criminal damage to property, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia at 3325 Pierce Ave.
A traffic accident occurred at 7:58 p.m. at 2291 Roosevelt Rd. between vehicles operated by Elisabeth D. Sellen and Richard Hruska; Sellen was cited for operating in violation of a red light.
September 24
A 13-year-old male was cited for possession of THC in the City of Marinette at 11:45 a.m.
Bradley Johnson was cited at 3:27 p.m. for possession of THC at 1919 Riverside Dr.
A 13-year-old male was cited for possession of THC in the City of Marinette at 5:57 p.m.
Dillion Vania was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated, second offense, at 9:43 p.m. at 2161 University Dr.
September 25
A traffic accident occurred at 5:28 p.m. at Marinette Ave. and Carney Ave. between vehicles operated by Ashley Cretens and John Bartoszek; no injuries or citations were reported.
Emiliano Morales Rodriguez was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated, third offense, at 11:55 p.m. near Highland Ave. and Hall Ave.
September 27
Michael Panske was cited for having an animal at large at 10:27 a.m. at 1230 W Hosmer St. following an animal attack.
A traffic accident occurred at 10:32 a.m. at 1905 Hall Ave. between vehicles operated by Cody Manske and Gregory Morton; Manske was cited for inattentive driving.
September 28
Simon Heimbuch and Brayden Zuraski were taken into custody at 12:52 a.m. at 2029 Hall Ave. for substantial battery and disorderly conduct.
A traffic accident occurred at 2:05 p.m. at Stephenson St. and Hall Ave. between vehicles operated by Chad Willems and Scott Englehart; no injuries or citations were reported.
September 29
A traffic accident occurred at 9:49 a.m. at Shore Dr. and Cleveland Ave. between vehicles operated by Hannah Malyszka and Benjamin Aretz; no injuries or citations were reported.
A charge of interference with custody by a parent was forwarded to the district attorney’s office for Morgan Zimmerman at 12:22 p.m. at 1136 Garfield Ave.
September 30
Jane Magnuson was cited for public nuisances affecting peace and safety at 6:52 a.m. at 325 State St.
A traffic accident occurred at 11:05 a.m. at Hall Ave. and Stephenson St. between vehicles operated by Donald Bellville and Joy Fox; Bellville was cited for operating in violation of a red traffic light.
Diana M. Strong was cited for possession of THC at 12:53 p.m. at 1225 Marinette Ave.
A 17-year-old female was cited for truancy in the City of Marinette at 7:58 p.m.
Menominee Police Department incident summary: September 26 - October 2
September 26
Officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at 12:12 a.m. at 10th St. and 20th Ave., resulting in disabling damage to both vehicles and minor injuries to one driver.
Officers investigated the report of a stolen Stehl leaf blower from a residential work site at 10:50 a.m. in the 4400 block of 13th St.
Officers investigated a report at 4:23 p.m. of the use of counterfeit savings bonds that were cashed in at a business in the 1000 block of 23rd Ave.
September 28
A 35-year-old male was arrested at 3:03 p.m. at 18th Ave. and 10th St. for failing to stop and identify himself at the scene of a property damage accident, no operator’s license and no proof of insurance.
September 29
Officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at 8:02 a.m. at 10th Ave. and 13th St., resulting in functional damage to one vehicle and minor damage to the other, with no injuries.
September 30
A 36-year-old female was given a warning for speeding at 7:51 a.m. at 18th Ave. and Co. Rd. 577.
Officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at 11:41 a.m. at 10th St. and 9th Ave., resulting in minor damage to one vehicle and functional damage to another, with no injuries.
October 1
A 24-year-old male was cited at 1:29 p.m. at 10th St. and 30th Ave. for careless driving and not having proof of insurance in a vehicle.
Officers assisted the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 4:16 p.m. with a report of an assault in progress in the 1200 block of River Dr.
October 2
A 38-year-old male was cited at 8:00 a.m. at 16th Ave. and 10th St. for having defective brake lights on a vehicle.
At 10:26 a.m. at 10th St. and 18th Ave, a 56-year-old male was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and violation of his conditional bond release, and a 47-year-old female was arrested for no insurance and expired registration plates on a vehicle.
A 22-year-old male was arrested at 4:38 p.m. in the 4100 block of 10th St. for being impaired in a public place and disorderly conduct.
