Aurora Health promotes local women’s wellness resources

Posted

MARINETTE – Aurora Health Care has been serving Marinette County since 2014, carrying forward their goal of “helping people live well” with the help of medical professionals in a wide variety of specialties. Currently, it is emphasizing women’s healthcare through their second annual women’s wellness event on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Business Development Manager Katie Esposito explained that this event will showcase how their women’s health program in Marinette continues to expand and grow.

“It’s an opportunity to empower women to prioritize and control their physical, mental, emotional and social well-being by providing them with education and resources and community connection,” Esposito explained.

There will be educational booths from Aurora medical professionals regarding gynecologic oncology, labor and delivery, behavioral health, pelvic floor therapy and more.

“We’ll also have a lot of our clinicians available to answer questions that women might have related to women’s health topics and we’ll have a lot of different materials about breast cancer screenings and colon cancer screenings just to help with awareness and prevention,” she added.

These topics align with October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A release from providers at Aurora breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the country and encouraged early detection screenings.

In addition to the medical side of this wellness event, Esposito said other wellness resources will be in attendance.

Creative Routes is a Marinette-based mobile art studio that promotes mental health and wellness through artistic endeavors.

Board certified art therapist Marissa Biswabic previously explained that she uses “art making as the tool to help people process the things that they’re going through and achieve the goals that they’re looking to move forward with.”

Another resource that takes a hands-on approach towards health that will be in attendance is the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA. The YMCA offers a variety of rotating classes like adult gymnastics, dance, group cycling and LiveSTRONG — a free, small group fitness program designed for adult cancer survivors.

Esposito shared her hope for this event to also promote social wellness.

“This is a great social networking opportunity to get [women] out of the house — whether they’re stay-at-home moms or working moms — to enjoy an evening with family, friends and community and learn about relevant women’s health topics, network and shop.”

A few of the confirmed vendors include: The Book Nook, Spirit House, Sweet Amy’s Cupcakes, Color Street Nails, Intrigue Salon, Charm Bar Jewelry, Marissa’s Country Kitchen and many more.

Esposito said that by creating a fun event to promote different forms of wellness this makes a low-barrier entry to medical information and allows for conversations that may be uncomfortable for some.

She noted the importance of “educating and bringing awareness to topics that we all face as women through all ages and stages of life, but don’t always address or talk about.”

“I think the more people that we can engage and let know we’re here as a health system to help support them through their health journey, the better we’ll all be,” Esposito added.

The women’s wellness event hosted by Aurora Health Care will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Little River Country Club in Marinette. In addition to the vendors and providers, there will be hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar serving drinks and mocktails, educational sessions and a chance to win a women’s health basket.

Those unable to attend can visit www.aurorahealthcare.org/locations/hospital/aurora-medical-center-bay-area to learn more about the medical services provided at Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area of Marinette. Many of the women’s health providers are accepting new patients and look forward to working with more members of the community.
