PESHTIGO – Crivitz picked up a Packerland Conference road win on Tuesday, Jan. 16 by defeating Peshtigo by a final score of 44-38.
Kiya Brand led all scorers with 19 points to go along with her three rebounds, four assists and six steals. Megan Pusick grabbed eight rebounds for the Wolverines.
For the Bulldogs, Holly Pesch turned in 17 points as the team’s lead scorer while Audra Bauman added six.
“Overall we played with good intensity. We got out to a quick start offensively in the first half and were able to build a lead,” said Peshtigo head coach Pete Villas. “Holly Pesch hit 4 three pointers in the first half to really get us going. In the second half, we struggled a little more offensively and had a stretch about half way through where we turned the ball over which proved to be the difference in the game.”
Lena still undefeated
LENA – In a close non conference game at home, the Wildcats of Lena prevailed over the Wildcats of Gresham Community by a final of 54-50 to keep their record perfect for the season so far.
Eva Brooks turned in another big game for Lena, totaling 29 points, 10 boards, an assist, three steals and five blocks. Madilyn Thomson finished with 13 points, sic boards, an assist, three steals and two blocks.
Marines outlast Spartans
MARINETTE – The Marinette girls picked up a North Eastern Conference victory on Tuesday, Jan. 16 with a 51-41 takedown of Luxemburg-Casco.
Leading the way for Marinette was Riley Kieffer with 17 points, two rebounds, a steal and a block. Olivia Hanson finished with 10 points, along with 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block while Kaya Bodom turned in another 10 points to go along with four assists and a steal.
“We played very aggressive defensively for the entire game,” said Marinette head coach Zac Barker. “We did a good job attacking downhill and were rewarded with getting to the free throw line on a consistent basis in the second half.”
Cougars steam past Rangers
COLEMAN – The Cougars were playing lock down defense at home on Thursday, Jan. 18 against Wausaukee, with their efforts resulting in a lopsided 68-29 victory that saw the tem improve to 12-4 overall for the year and an 8-1 M&O Conference mark, putting them in second behind undefeated Lena.
Kiersten Jensen finished the game with 18 points, four rebounds, an assist and two steals to go along with 11 points, a block, five steals, four assists and four boards from Callee Comp.
Wausaukee got 10 points from Lydia Schaal and another nine from Melody Schaal.
Wildcats shred Cavalettes
LENA – The Lena girls posted a blowout win on Tuesday, Jan. 16 as they upended the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas crew by a final of 77-12.
Eva Brooks led the way with 18 points, eight boards, three assists, seven steals and two blocks. Madilyn Thomson added 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, six steals and a block for Lena.
Cougars sputter in second half, fall to Knights
OSHKOSH – In a non-conference road matchup on Monday, Jan. 15, the Coleman girls had a one-point advantage over Lourdes-Academy going into the second half, only to fall behind over the course of the game’s last 18 minutes to end up on the wrong side of a 67-38 final.
Kiersten Jensen turned in 10 points and five boards to lead Coleman, followed by seven points, six boards, two blocks, two steals and an assist from Vivian Kostreva.
Panthers steamroll Mustangs
OCONTO FALLS – The Oconto Falls girls basketball team gave Little Chute zero breathing room on Tuesday, Jan. 16, stifling the visiting team’s offense while zooming out to a 52-10 win.
Rylie Shallow turned in 18 points, seven boards, an assist and had 12 steals. Kati Raddatz had 11 points, six boards, a steal, an assist and three blocks while Bailee Gorman chipped in 10 points, a block, two assists, three boards and a steal.
Peshtigo stumbles against Sevastopol
PESHTIGO – The Bulldogs couldn’t find their rhythm on offense Thursday, Jan. 18 at home against Sevastopol, resulting in a 50-15 defeat.
“We had a hard time getting into an offensive rhythm tonight. They do a good job pressuring the ball and we struggled against that,” said Bulldogs head coach Pete Villas. “Sevastopol is one of the better teams in our conference and it showed. We need to put this one out of our minds. We have a short turnaround with Southern Door coming to town tomorrow.”
Holly Pesch turned in six points for the Bulldogs; Rylie Ellie had four; Athena Powers finished with three and Rachel Nelson added a pair.
Niagara defeated by Florence
FLORENCE – The Lady Badgers took an out-of-conference loss on Tuesday, Jan. 16 as they hit the road to face the Bobcats, coming away with a 45-34 defeat.
In the loss, Niagara got 10 apiece from Mallory and Bristol Sanicki, along with seven from Alivia Kleikamp.
Wolverines tame Tigers
GILLETT – With a 30-18 halftime lead in hand, the Crivitz girls cruised to a 44-32 road victory over Gillett on Thursday, Jan. 18.
Kiya Brand had the hot hand for the Wolverines, scoring 21 points to go along with two steals, two assists and a rebound. Lucy Gruszynski added 11 points, three boards, three assists and two steals.
Gillett got 10 points from Hope Soper and six apiece from Sophie Limberg and Audrey Pate.
Marines fall just short vs. FVL
APPLETON – The Marinette girls worked their way through an off night of play on Friday, Jan. 19 as they stumbled against Fox Valley Lutheran in a 56-52 defeat.
Tiley Kieffer turned in 13 points to lead the Marines, now 8-2 in North Eastern Conference play and 12-4 overall, while Kaya Bodom added 12.
Bulldogs topped by Eagles
PESHTIGO – The Peshtigo girls put together a solid game at home against Southern Door on Friday, Jan. 19 but came out on the short end of a 50-40 final score.
“I really liked the intensity we played with tonight. We matched up well against them. We shot the ball well from three-point range. We were 7 for 15,” said Peshtigo head coach Pete Villas. “Holly Pesch has another good night with five shots from beyond the arc. We missed too many shots, especially off of offensive rebounds from the paint, and that ended up hurting us. The final score doesn’t indicate how close the game was. We were down three with a little over a minute left. Once we had to start fouling them, they hit their free throws.”
17 points from Pesch led the way for the Bulldogs, followed by 11 from Audra Bauman.
