NORTHEAST WIS. – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announced that construction on the US 141 resurfacing and culvert replacement project in Marinette and Oconto counties has been accelerated, with work now scheduled to begin in 2027 instead of the previously planned 2028 construction year.
The project covers approximately 8.3 miles US 141 from County C in the Village of Wausaukee to County K in the Town of Amberg. This advancement reflects WisDOT’s commitment to addressing roadway needs more quickly while optimizing available funding and resources. The project is necessary to correct severe pavement deterioration and substandard culverts and guardrail.
US 141 will be resurfaced using Cold In-Place Recycling (CIR), a sustainable and cost-effective method that reuses existing pavement materials. Key specifications include milling off approximately 2.75 inches of the existing surface and placing three inches of CIR pavement.
There will also be a replacement of 19 guardrail segments, totaling approximately 10,771 linear feet.
Maintenance and replacement of 23 culverts within the project limits include: four pipes in good condition, no work planned; seven deep pipes to be lined; and 12 pipes to be fully replaced.
Other secondary work such as culvert extensions, lining, cleaning, end wall replacement/resetting, section resetting and ditch cleaning will be completed.
By advancing the project to 2027, WisDOT aims to deliver improved safety, ride quality and long-term pavement performance for motorists sooner. US 141 is expected to always remain open using flagging operations during construction.
