Posted

WAUSAUKEE – During the Town of Wausaukee board meeting on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., the board discussed signage at Lubka Rd. and Pike River Rd., to which they concluded that no signs will be placed at this time.

Another point of discussion was Chairman Engelmann stated that the Town of Wausaukee is running at 70% appraised value. This is the second year, and there are five years before there has to be a decision to change property values. Supervisor Dennis Taylor commented, “Property values will go up, but assessments will come down.”

Later in the meeting, the new Marinette County judge, as of Aug. 1, Peggy Miller, introduced herself. Miller served as Family Court Commissioner Court Commissioner Register in probate. To keep her place on the bench, she will run in April 2025.

Supervisor Dennis Taylor motioned to grant a variance to Jon Malgorzata to be within 10 feet of the property line for garage reconstruction. The motion carried. Taylor also made a motion to grant a variance for a mobile home to Thailer Collier with the approval of the home by Supervisor Matt Jicha. The motion carried.

Tree removal on town roads will cost approximately $250 an hour. Some concerns arise for private property right away on roads and property owners. Chairman Engelmann will check State statutes and bring his information to the next meeting.

The Fire District’s second-quarter report was given. The fire department is actively looking to purchase a pumper truck. After ordering the vehicle, it would take 36 months to receive it, with a cost of $500,000.

Supervisor Vicky Mueller gave an update on WTA 2023-24 Legislative Priorities, including transportation, public safety, levy limits, grant applications, PILT payments, paperwork, elections, emergency management and more. Taylor made a motion to pay Mueller for the time spent on training; the motion carried.

The Financial report was given with amounts of $1,381.26 in checking and $674,509.06 in MM General Accounts as of July 31.

During public comment, Mark Winters spoke to the board about making operation time changes to the current ATV ordinance, which the board will review at the Sept. 10 meeting.
