The Pendulum

I looked inside my heart and home 
At the comfort and food found there 
I was blessed to live abundantly
Was I willing to give and share

Most of us are doing well
Though we often still complain
Have we ever known loneliness
Or a hungry stomachs pain

Am I caught up in thoughts of me
That I forgot my fellow man 
As he bores the troubles of this world
Did I lend a helping hand

It’s nice to share triumphs and joy
When good fortunes come his way
But can I be found when life’s pendulum 
Swings the other way
