Summer’s Ending
The apples have ripened on the tree
Canadian geese and swans will fly
To escape the chill to be free
It lapsed away too fast
The rose petals fell to the ground
With parting sighs it says goodbye
As the winds of autumn sound
Nature’s change is showing signs
The sun begins to set too soon
Turning light into darkness
Underneath autumn’s moon
Trees begin to change color
Yellow, orange and shades of red
And there I write another poem
Dreaming on nature’s bed
Trout swim upstream to spawn
The partridge in the forest drum
Butterflies disappear in dreams
Of children waiting for sleep to come
Sequestered by the hands of time
All things must come to end
The songbirds sing one last song
Then fly away with the wind
