Robert George "Ike" Eichinger passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 91, with his son and daughter by his side, leaving behind a family who adored him, a community he faithfully served, and a legacy of love, generosity, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion that will continue for generations.

Born on April 24, 1935, Ike married the love of his life, Jeanne Ruechel, on June 28, 1958. Together they built a life grounded in love, faithfulness, laughter, and family. They made their home in Wausaukee, where Ike accepted his first—and only—teaching position with the Wausaukee School District, where he also coached and was the athletic director for numerous years. For 34 years he inspired and mentored generations of students. Teaching was more than his profession; it was his calling. One of his greatest joys was watching his own children and their spouses, and later, some of his grandchildren and their spouses, walk the halls of the school district where he had invested so much of his heart.

Above all else, Ike loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving dad, a proud grandpa, and an adoring great-grandpa. His family treasured him beyond words and feels blessed to have been guided by his wisdom, humility, kindness, and unconditional love. He believed the greatest gift he could give was time together. Alaska cruises, cherished weeks in Minocqua, fishing trips to Canada with Craig’s family and friend Randy, camping adventures with Beth's family, holidays around the table, and countless card games became treasured traditions. Those moments strengthened the bonds of a family that remains his greatest legacy.

Perhaps the greatest example of Ike's character was the loving care he gave Jeanne during her long battle with Alzheimer's disease. As her primary caregiver for many years, he cared for her with remarkable patience, compassion, dignity, and steadfast devotion until her passing in 2009. His love never wavered, and his family witnessed every day what it truly means to honor wedding vows.

Ike found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved tending his garden, sitting in his garage watching the traffic go by and waving to neighbors, playing cribbage, smear, and liar's dice & poker, enjoying an occasional cold beer or his whiskey diet, and sharing his quick wit with everyone around him. His sense of humor, perfectly timed one-liners, and warm smile will continue to echo in the stories his family tells for years to come.

He is survived by his son, Craig (Kathy) Eichinger; his daughter, Beth (Russell) Meyers; grandsons Zachary (Kelsey) Meyers, Steven (Sara) Eichinger, Dillon (Vanessa) Meyers, and Brian (Alexa) Eichinger; eight cherished great-grandchildren: Zachary "Rusty," Amelia, Charlotte, Nora, Watson, Emma, Warren, and Robert "Auggy"; his brother-in-law, Howard Eck; his sister-in-law, Sue Allen; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many dear friends, neighbors, colleagues, and former students.

Ike was especially close with his niece, Mindy (Steve) Anderson. Her kindness and care brought him comfort and laughter, and the family will always be grateful for the love and care she so generously gave him throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne; his parents, George, and Emma Eichinger; his sister, Judith; his sister-in-law, Audrey Eck; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne (Yvonne) Ruechel; his brother-in-law, James Allen; and other cherished family members and many friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rennes West Rehabilitation, the Aurora BayCare Emergency Department, the third-floor nurses and physicians, and the ICU staff. Their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care allowed Ike to spend his final days with dignity and peace, providing comfort to both him and his family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Roubal Funeral Home in Wausaukee. A service officiated by Rev. Paul Hueter will begin at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, Ike will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, best friend, and the love of his life, Jeanne, at Evergreen Cemetery.

Although his family grieves his passing, they find comfort in knowing that Ike's love lives on in every lesson he taught, every tradition he began, every laugh he shared, and every life he touched. His true measure was never found in titles or achievements, but in the strength of the family he built, the students he inspired, and the countless people who are better because they knew him. His was a life beautifully lived, deeply loved, and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the family for the future establishment of a scholarship fund in Ike’s memory through the Wausaukee School District. This scholarship will honor Ike’s lifelong dedication to education and his commitment to encouraging and supporting students for years to come. Additional details regarding the scholarship will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.

Roubal Funeral Home in Wausaukee is assisting Ike’s family with arrangements.
