Richard J. Swiatnicki, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on November 10, 1934, Richard joined the US Navy where he served his country honorably from 1952-1956. He married Rita Strojny on May 4th, 1957, at St. Mary Catholic Parish in Peshtigo. Richard's journey through life was marked by a gentle spirit and an unyielding commitment to his loved ones.
A family man at heart, Richard's legacy continues through his devoted children, Michael (Lynn), Paul Swiatnicki, and Julie (Rick) Stoeger; cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Joe, Matt (Jenna), Jared Swiatnicki, and Ryan Stoeger; as well his great-grandchildren, Lyla, Kayden, and McKenzie. His enduring presence will also be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law, Ron Strojny, and sister-in-law, Betty Sheehy. Though he now reunites with his beloved wife, Rita, his son, Mark, and his siblings, Val (Lou), Edwin "Sonny" (Marcella), and Helen (Al) Durocher, along with his sister-in-law Sophie Strojny.
Richard's education began in the humble setting of a one-room schoolhouse at the crossroads of 141 and M, laying the foundation for the admirable resilience and ingenuity that would characterize his life. His professional years were diverse and abundant; he retired from the finishing room at Badger Paper Mill, contributed his skills at Sentinel Structures, took pride in his work as a custodian at Peshtigo National Bank, and shared his handyman talents at DeHart Chevrolet.
A life dappled with the beauty of the great outdoors, Richard was the last surviving charter member of the N.E.W Cat/Coyote/Bear Club and reveled in the camaraderie forged over the love of running his hounds.
Retirement brought new joy in Athelstane, it became his and Rita's chosen haven, a testament to their shared love for serenity and simplicity. He cherished family visits, scenic drives, and the simple pleasure of a meal shared with friends and family.
Funeral services for Richard were held on January 8th at St. Mary Catholic Church, Peshtigo, followed by burial with military honors in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo. Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home served the family.
