Peshtigo Lions Club puts service into action

PESHTIGO – Sometimes, serving the community means simply showing up, rolling up the sleeves and lending a helping hand.

That is exactly what members of the Peshtigo Lions Club did when a community member needed assistance with an important home project. Lions volunteers came together to sand and prepare a deck and its railings for painting, turning a job that might have been overwhelming for one person into a manageable project through teamwork and service.

With sanders and plenty of elbow grease, Peshtigo Lions worked together to prepare the deck and railings for a fresh new look. More importantly, they are giving their time, energy and skills to someone in their community who needed a helping hand.

This project is a wonderful example of what the Lions motto “We Serve” means in everyday life.

“Service does not always require a large event, a major fundraiser or a project with hundreds of participants. Sometimes the greatest impact comes from recognizing a need right in our own neighborhood and asking, ‘How can we help?’ As the Lions philosophy reminds us, ‘Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion,’” Peshtigo Lions Club Administrator Rhonda McClain shared.

The Peshtigo Lions demonstrated that principle in a very practical way. They identified a need, organized volunteers, worked as a team and are on track to complete a project that will make a tangible difference in the life of a community member.

The project also illustrates the power of teamwork. Lions’ service frequently involves a collective effort, and effective teams can accomplish far more together than individuals working alone.

There is another important lesson in this simple project — service builds community. When Lions volunteer their time and talents, they are not simply completing a task. They are strengthening relationships, demonstrating compassion and showing that people in the community do not have to face challenges alone.
