Peshtigo Food Pantry recognized for 20 years of service

Posted

PESHTIGO – The Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce presented the Peshtigo Food Pantry with a certificate of recognition on Wednesday, April 29, honoring 20 years of service to the community.

The certificate acknowledges the pantry’s unwavering dedication and its impact on countless local households, a milestone reached through a wide network of volunteers, donors and service organizations.

Among those on hand was City of Peshtigo Mayor Katie Berman, who was working as a volunteer during the visit, a role she said brings her back week after week.

“This is what makes me happy,” Berman said.

“When I’m done with my job, this is where I want to be. If I could do this full time, I would.”

The pantry typically serves between 55 and 65 households each week, with that number occasionally climbing higher during peak times of need.

Berman emphasized that the mission goes beyond long-term assistance.

“We’re here to help fill in the gaps. It might be a family going through a tough stretch for a few weeks, or someone recovering from surgery. Something as simple as a jar of peanut butter can make a real difference.”

Stocked through donations from local churches, the Lions Club, the chamber and community food drives, the pantry also relies on student volunteers and residents to keep shelves filled and operations running smoothly.
