Paul Neil Verbiar, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Wisconsin at the age of 78.
He was born on January 21, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, and carried with him throughout his life the strength, work ethic, and practical spirit that came to define him. Paul lived a life marked by quiet generosity, steady devotion, and a deep appreciation for the simple blessings of home, family, and honest work. He was a Christian man whose faith guided the way he treated others, and he was known by those who loved him as someone who could always be counted on.
Paul married the love of his life, Annette, on June 30, 1973. Together they shared 53 years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and commitment. Their life together was built on mutual respect and enduring devotion, and their bond remained a source of strength and comfort through the years. Paul was a proud and loving husband, and his marriage to Annette stood as one of the great accomplishments of his life.
He was a devoted father to his daughter, Helen (Derek) Downey, and a proud grandfather to his four grandsons, who brought him great joy. Paul also leaves behind his brother, James, along with many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who were part of his extended circle of love and support. Family meant everything to Paul, and he valued the relationships he built and maintained throughout his life. He was happiest when surrounded by those he cared for, and he showed his love not only in words, but in the many thoughtful ways he helped others.
Paul made the move from Illinois to Wisconsin 21 years ago in search of a simpler life, and he embraced that life with gratitude and contentment. He enjoyed the outdoors and found peace in fishing and hunting, activities that reflected his appreciation for nature and the quiet moments it offered. He also loved working in his machine shop, where his hands and mind were put to good use. Paul was handy in every sense of the word, and he took pride in being able to fix, build, and create. He had the rare ability to do things for people without expecting anything in return, and his selfless and generous nature touched many lives.
Those who knew Paul will remember him as a man of integrity, humility, and kindness. He was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand. His life was a reflection of service to others, and he gave freely of his time, talents, and heart. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for the way he made others feel valued and cared for.
Funeral services for Paul were held Friday, July 17th at the First Presbyterian Church in Menominee MI.
