CRIVITZ – The Crivitz School District Board of Education met on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and heard reports regarding a district survey, special education enrollment and the projected pricing for school bus transportation.
The district vision and mission survey opened in September and collected results from about 500 respondents, with the majority (66%) of respondents being parents or guardians of students.
When asked, “What values do you believe should be at the heart of our school community and central to our school’s mission and vision?” and given a list to select up to five choices from, the responses chosen by the majority were: Respect, 76.9%; Integrity, 59.6%; Responsibility, 59.6%; and accountability, 51.9%.
When asked to select five choices for the question, “What outcomes are most important for students to achieve by the time they leave this school?” the majority answered: Critical thinking skills, 77.4%; Self-management skills, 66%; and strong communication skills, 56.6%.The majority of respondents (32.7%) ranked the school’s current ability to reflect these values at three out of five.
Although the board shared that they had hoped for more responses, they shared they will be keeping these responses in mind going forward.
The next item on the docket was the 2026 - 2027 projections and open enrollment recommendations for special education report.
Open enrollment recommendations are based on the growth projections within a specific school as well as a state-wide caseload formula to mathematically determine the maximum number of students that can be assigned to a teacher based on a variety of factors.
Based on these calculations, it was projected that the district will have zero open enrollment slots in every category except for one open enrollment position for a cross categorical junior/senior.
During the meeting, the administration noted that the district has been “pretty full” for nearly five years and typically denies special education open enrollment applications based on these calculations.
The board approved adopting the recommendation for special education limits while placing no limit on regular education open enrollment, which is what they have approved in previous years as well.
In other reports, the district negotiated a new contract with Lamers Bus Lines for three years starting on July 1. This contract reflects a change to a per-day rate rather than a regular route with mileage daily rate.
The district will pay shifting rates depending on the size of the bus, whether a wheelchair lift is needed, if there is an early dismissal or any other extenuating circumstances.
Going forward, the rates for a standard full occupancy bus per day will be:
Additionally, the rate for any bus — ranging from 16 to 76 passengers — for field trips and co-curricular activities will be:
The district said that they attempted to bid the busing contract out to other companies, but no bids were received. Ultimately, they negotiated this contract and the board voted to approve it.
In board communication, Justin Pusick spoke during public comments and thanked members of the community, staff, school board and government for helping him bring forward “important issues.” Jake Roberts followed up on a request for findings regarding an employee investigation that occurred earlier this school year, citing a “lack of transparency” from the board.
Additional comments were shared by administrators during their reports, with elementary school principal Kam Dama recognizing Aaron Patefield from the maintenance department as the December staff member of the month. She also shared that the Crivitz Elementary Read-A-Thon has raised over $10,000 so far and thanked the women’s club for their book donation.
Superintendent Kelly Robinson spoke about the vision screenings provided by the Lion’s Club and middle/high school principal Bob Berndt
Closing out the meeting, the board voted to move into closed session to discuss performance evaluations for principals, the school psychologist and the student services director.
Following the closed session, the reconvened to approve contract extensions through June 30, 2028, for all of the discussed positions as well as the superintendent.
