Oconto City Council prepares for upcoming spring election

Posted

OCONTO – During the spring election on April 7 there will be five candidates vying for four open seats on the Oconto City Council.

The candidates for city council include incumbent council president Darrell Anderson, incumbent Dee Donlevy, Violet McFadden Hornick, incumbent Lori Stenstrup and incumbent vice president Dan Zoeller.

In an effort to give all candidates an opportunity to present their approach to the city council position, the Peshtigo Times reached out to candidates with a questionnaire form.

The response from Zoeller can be found in this issue. Anderson, Donlevy, McFadden Hornick and Stenstrup did not respond.

Dan Zoeller

Why are you running to retain this position?

My reasons for running for alderman remain the same as when I ran 2 years ago. I feel residents need to be treated equal.

Committee members, alderpersons and mayor need to follow the Code of Ordinances that have been put in place. If they feel a change is needed in these codes, they need to take the proper steps to adjust them.

The mayor, council, committee members and residents don’t have to agree on things, but we do need to listen and respect each other’s opinions.

If re-elected, what will be your top priorities?

Adding more affordable housing in the City and doing something with the old hospital building will be two of my top priorities.

What is your approach to handling complex issues?

Listening to the citizens, concerns and how this issue affects the citizens and the city (now in the 20 year plan).

Does the code of ordinance affect the particular issue and then open discussion during council meeting on the subject?

How will you involve residents in the decision making process?

Public hearings to addressed the pros and cons that’s a citizens have. Discussion with whoever stops me or calls me on the subject. And then also before the council meeting there is public input where citizens can have time for opinions.
