MENOMINEE, MICH. – Although the rates for daily passes into Menominee County parks will remain at $5 for a daily pass and $20 for an annual pass, persons will no longer be able to purchase an additional pass at the reduced rate of $10 after the county board approved the change on Dec. 2.
The rates for camping in 2026 will increase to $30 per night for an electric site and $20 for a non-electric site with a $10 reservation fee while the fee for a seasonal site ranges from $450 to $2,500 annually.
The board also approved keeping the campground at Shakey Lake open until the end of November to accommodate hunters and other late season campers, however the extended time does include seasonal sites which remain open from May 1 to Oct. 31.
Campers will be able to make reservations starting on March 2, 2026, and sales of park passes have already begun.
Similarly, the board approved a budget amendment with the purpose of allocating $12,000 to purchase a dump trail for the Parks and Recreation Department. The county received a $6,000 Hannahville Grant for the purchase with the remaining $6,000 to be allocated from the Parks and Recreation Undesignated Fund Balance.
In personnel updates, Lisa Fernstrum was appointed to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and Shannon Linderoth was appointed to the Menominee County Fair Board.
The board took no action on the yearly membership with the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission (CUPPAD). The $9,450 yearly membership fee includes a $450 increase which will require a budget amendment and will be taken up at a future meeting.
In other items, they approved the purchase of a detective’s vehicle for the sheriff’s department for $35,947 to be purchased from Team Chevrolet of Manistique, Mich. The purchase was approved in a three-part motion, one motion to amend the budget, one motion to purchase the vehicle and a third motion to dispose of a vehicle in the form of a trade into Team Chevrolet.
They also approved the annual agreement with the Michigan State University Extension for $85,490 which reflects a 5% increase, the same increase that has occurred the last several years.
