MARINETTE – The following opportunities will be offered at the Marinette Senior Center, located at 1603 Ludinton St., Marinette, throughout September.
Monthly Educational Opportunities
The Marinette Senior Center along with DFCC and Unity Hospice invite community members to the 2nd Annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Marinette Rec Center located at 2501 Pierce Ave. This is a free event and open to the public. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to visit with and learn about a variety of local organizations specializing in senior care, health, wellness and more. The center will also have treats, refreshments, vendor prizes and raffle giveaways. Winners don’t need to be present to win.
Community members are also invited to the Medicare Educational Event at the Senior Center on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with Alan and Lucas DeGayner from AFD Insurance. They will cover the topics of Original Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage and Medicare part D as well as the different election periods. They will also share with you what to watch out for when it comes to Medicare fraud and answer any questions. Advance registration preferred, but not necessary. Monthly Craft Activities
A watercolor painting class will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost for members is $35 and the cost for non-members is $40.
Advanced registration and payment is required for this class. It is limited to eight people. For more information or to register call the office at (715) 732-1280. If unable to attend, please call to open a spot up for someone else.
Silly scarecrow class will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The cost for members is $5 and the cost for non-members is $8. Join one of the fabulous and super talented members, Holly, as she guides the class through making a silly scarecrow wreath and décor craft. Easy-to-make, no craftiness necessary and all supplies will be provided for the craft. Advanced registration required, as class is limited to the first eight participants. Please call the front office to reserve a spot today.
There will also be diamond painting options on Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m.
Monthly Fitness Activities
Line dancing will be offered on Tuesdays from 9:30-11 a.m. which will help participants improve balance, coordination and memory. The cost of the class is $2, paid to instructor.
A new Session of classes taught by Tammy Veith will include Monday Chair Yoga at a.m., Tuesday Yoga Pilates at 4 p.m. and Thursday Beginner Yoga at 4 p.m. A new session will begin the week of Sept. 9. Please note: classes may not run if less than seven participants register.
Additionally, the Women and Strength Program that runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Senior Center from 8-9 a.m. and is sponsored by Advanced Wellness and Physical Therapy. A new session will begin on Oct. 10 and will run for 24 sessions. The cost is $35 for 24 classes. For more information or to register, please contact the Senior Center at (715) 732-1280.
Finally, the walking group meets on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. They will be at Hennes Park Pavilion one on Sept. 5 and 19. They will meet at the Mary Hofer Walking Trail at the hospital on Sept. 12 and 26. Should inclement weather arise, walking will be at the Community Rec Center located at 2501 Pierce Ave. Self-led most days.
Foot and Blood Pressure Clinic
The Foot Clinic courtesy of Almost Family Foot Clinic will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12 and 19, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with a cost of $15 per person. Clients will need to soak their feet 20 minutes prior to their appointment. Advance registration required. Participants can register at the center or by calling (715) 732-1280.
Compassus Grief Support Group
Compassus Hospice offers a Drop-in grief support group that is helpful in grieving the death of a loved one. They meet every fourth Thursday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Marinette Senior Center. The next meeting is on Thursday, Sept. 26. No pre-registration is required. For more information contact Compassus at (920) 321-2004.
Monthly Cards
Mondays will include Pokeno from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by farkle from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and smear from 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and the Pinochle group will meet from 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Wednesdays start off with bingo at 10:30 a.m.-noon and then hand and foot in the afternoon from 12:30-2:15 p.m. The Majong group will meet on Thursdays from 12:30-2:15 p.m. For more information call the front office at (715) 732-1280.
