MARINETTE – The Marinette School District Board of Education met most recently on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
The meeting opened with the monthly Spotlight on Learning presentation. Middle school students Grace Sebero, Evan Christopherson, Cole Benson and Bobby Miller were accompanied by their teacher Beth Horn and showcased their “Famous Buildings from Around the World” projects. These projects were created during the seventh grader’s daily enrichment time.
Continuing with academic updates, the board approved the 2026 – 2027 MHS social studies course additions. Four new UW-Green Bay dual enrollment classes were added.
HISTORY 102 - Foundations of Western Culture II was added as a replacement for modern world history. FINANCE 182 - Personal Finance is a dual enrollment course that is geared towards students intending to enter a four-year college.
Superintendent Corry Lambie said that this will not be the only personal finance course offered.
For students interested in pursuing teaching, two new courses have been added — EDUCATION 206 - Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning as well as EDUCATION 208 - Concepts, Issues and Field Experience in Education.
Superintendent Corry Lambie said “These additions expand dual-credit offerings and support high-demand career pathways, including education.”
Currently, the high school offers over 35 dual credit courses.
In staffing updates, the following resignations were approved: Paul Okray – lighting/set construction, MHS; Alexis Lang – special education EA, MPS; JJ Zeifert – head girls tennis coach, MHS; Dave Klegin – varsity assistant softball coach at MHS; and James Jagielski – head wrestling coach, MMS.
Hailey Behnke was hired as a special education EA at the middle school.
Additionally, Appendix B hires included: Noah Miller – JV1 boys basketball coach, MHS; Alex Lederer – vocal director (concert prep); Amber Hanson – freshman class advisor; Ben Schaefers – instrumental director (concert prep); and Cayden Elliott – boys basketball assistant coach, MMS.
After Lambie announced his retirement, the board began their search for his replacement. They voted to work with CESA 8 to conduct the search.
“The Board selected CESA 8 to assist with the search for the next superintendent.
Both CESA 8 and WASB submitted strong proposals and are well-regarded statewide for their leadership support. Given the District’s long-standing partnership with CESA 8, the Board voted [unanimously] to accept their proposal,” Lambie said.
The district will post the superintendent position vacancy next.
The board also approved the addition of a part-time health office educational associate.
Lambie said that this decision was made “in response to increased student medical needs… to enhance care and support for student well-being and academic success.”
A $2,000 mentor stipend was also approved for the 2025 - 2026 school year to support the district’s school psychologist intern.
“This supports the mentor’s additional workload as the District addresses a longstanding vacancy,” Lambie explained.
In financial updates, a variety of donations were approved for the MHS baseball team’s trip to St. Louis. Donations include: Stephenson National Bank & Trust, $3,000; PCM Credit Union, $250; John Carter and Associates, $2,250; Andrea Polzin, DDS, $2,000; and $500 from an anonymous donor.
Other donations include $2,000 from the Merrill Kallstrom Family to the high school band and $500 from the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturers Alliance to the MHS metals department for winning the excellence award.
Lastly, the school board approved two student trips. The MHS and MMS Student Senates will attend the Bucks Leadership Day in Milwaukee and the MHS powerlifting team will attend the regional competition in Ashland.
The school board will meet next on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
