Local employment opportunities showcased at The Homemakers career fair

MENOMINEE, MICH. – The West Bagley Homemakers dba The Homemakers hosted their fourth annual career fair at Menominee High School on April 29.

This group, composed of all senior women, recently celebrated 70 years of supporting the community in January and continued to prove the impact of their actions.

Their impact was most recently showcased at the Menominee High School where employers had tables set up in the school gym, allowing students to explore the different opportunities and speak to those that interested them the most.

The U.S. Marine Corps booth had students test out their physical abilities by challenging them to complete 20 for a free t-shirt. Local fire departments brought firefighter suits for students to try on, the Middle Inlet Dive Team came with their diving gear and the Peshtigo Fire Department taught those who were interested how to perform CPR.

These emergency services were also joined by the Michigan State Police, Menominee Fire Department, local police departments, sheriff’s offices, Civil Air Patrol and other branches of the military.

Some of the other trade businesses in attendance were Northern Coatings and Chemical, Blue Sky Aviation, RT Electric, Samuel Pressure Vessel and A.N.S. Machine as well as financial institutions like Peshtigo National Bank and Nicolet National Bank, businesses like Gregg Young Chrysler in Abram and medical providers like Rennes.

The Homemakers sought to further the working relationship between students and businesses by recognizing locations that were short staffed. Tables advertised summer employment opportunities and allowed high school students a chance to apply.

This annual event keeps growing as more schools and businesses continue to reach out from Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Kingsford, Mich. all the way down to Green Bay wanting to participate.

“Everyone is recognizing that you can never start too early on inviting all high school students to come as these events open doors to endless possibilities. They find out what businesses are around the areas, where they are located, what they do and what they need to do to become one of their employees… It provides exposure to so many different professions,” The Homemakers explained.

The group further stated that they encourage students to be open minded and flexible about what they want to do in the future and emphasized the importance of being dependable and trying new things.

Later that day, The Homemakers hosted their first job fair that was open to the public. This event saw 45 businesses participating and over 70 individuals make their way through, gathering information and being offered assistance with the job application process.

Planning for the next career fair in 2027 is already in progress, with the organizers collecting ideas from businesses about expanding and improving future events.

“Starting right here at home, career fairs are having an impact that continues to cause ripples of excitement for everyone. The message is very clear that these events open doors to endless possibilities and can play a crucial role in helping the students to make an informed career choice,” The Homemakers shared.

“We all can help shape the future of our communities and the careers of our students by keeping them right here at home and helping them build a successful life,” they added.

The Homemakers went on to thank the sponsors of the 2026 event — Dustin Kurath of Blue Sky Aviation, Northern Coating and Chemicals, Nicolet National Bank, Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce and Peshtigo National Bank.
