Posted

Linda Lou (Mortinson) Cherry, 77, Pulaski, died at home on September 18, 2024, after an extended illness. The daughter of the late Andrew and Johanna (Peterson) Mortinson was born June 2, 1947 in Menominee, Michigan.

As a youth, Linda lived on her parents’ farm near Loomis, WI, where she developed her love for horses and other animals. She graduated from Crivitz High School in 1965. She then attended business school in Milwaukee and worked in Milwaukee at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. She married Dean Alvin Cherry, August 31, 1968 at Porterfield Lutheran Church, in Porterfield, WI. The couple moved to Green Bay from Milwaukee and built a home and farm in rural Pulaski in 1973. Linda worked at the Green Bay Downtown YMCA for 12 years until leaving for an office manager position at a Green Bay dental office.

During this time, she raised horses, sheep, and goats. She retired from full time work in 1990. In 1992, she and her husband built a small boarding stable for horses which Linda ran until poor health made it too difficult. In 1975 she first began to show horses at halter and in riding classes. She started with Arabians, changed to Quarter Horses, Haflingers, and ended with showing Miniature Horses. Over the years she won numerous ribbons and trophies for showing horses; including a number of Best in Show and End of the Year awards. One of her other hobbies was collecting reproductions of Faberge Eggs. In addition, she loved to tell stories, and they will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Survivors include her spouse, Dean A. Cherry; brother, Ralph (Cheri) Mortinson; sisters, Helen (Bill) Helgersen, Mabel Vaughn; sister-in-law, Jenelle Paust; brother-in-law, Keith (Jane) Cherry; goddaughters Amanda (Tom) Paust, and Jennifer Cherry; godson, Matthew (Pauline) Paust; numerous nieces and nephews. Linda touched many lives and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Johanna Mortinson; brother-in-law, Gary Paust, nephew and godson, Bradley Paust.
