Lena’s McVane Secures M&O Golfer of the Year Award

Lena’s Braden McVane, who finished this year’s State Tournament in a four-way tie for 7th place among Division 3 individuals, follows through on his tee shot from the first hole at The Meadow Valleys Course in Kohler on Monday, June 3.

The M&O All Conference Golf first team was dominated by the Lena boys this season, who due to their efforts won a conference championship, an appearance at the state golf meet and nabbed three of the five first team spots. Not only did they take the biggest share of the first team but also the year’s Golfer of the Year award.

That Lena first team was composed of three top notch golfers, Drake Dionne, Mason Belongia and the Year’s top golfer Braden McVane. Not only did McVane get this year’s award, he adds it to last year’s Golfer of the year award giving him two consecutive titles. Lena also posted a second team golfer in Mason Spice.

“I am extremely proud of all 5 of my golfers,” said Lena head coach John Moe. “Evan Vanderzanden would have made 2nd team also but was one match short. These boys have been part of 3 conference championships, one regional crown and two state 5th place finishes. Juniors mason spice and Mason Belongia continue to improve their games and I expect them to battle to be in the mix for player of the year next year. Belongia showed a little more consistency this year and earned 1st team honors to Spices 2nd team. Drake Dionne made his 3rd consecutive first team as did Braden McVane and his second player of the year award. Braden scored in the 70’s every 18 holes he played all year including the state tournament which is incredible. My three seniors will be hard to replace but they have laid a foundation for future players to strive for.”

STAA also had an excellent golfer in the ranks this year in Kaiden Bailey who earned himself a spot on the first team list. He was joined o the all conference list by teammate Theron Thayer on the second team.

Oneida’s Jonas Johnson joined the list of top golfers as well.

The second team saw Crivitz’s Jack Bauer make the team and Coleman’s Thomas Rohde make the list as well. Gillett’s Thomas Carmody also was a second team selection.
