LAKEWOOD – Two candidates are running for Town of Lakewood Town Board chair. Mike Musil responded to the Peshtigo Times’ request for information, while the newspaper didn’t receive responses from his opponent Kevin Ballangee.
Musil is a retired Army Sergeant Major and a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy with 25 years of experience as a professional military leader, including serving for a year as a senior enlisted adviser for based defense and operations in Afghanistan. He also was a state facility manager, a strategic planner and a senior enlisted advisor. His civilian experience includes serving as an Asplundh Tree Service foreman conducting power-line tree maintenance.
Why are you running?
I’ve been visiting Lakewood for about 15 years and a resident for two, since retiring from the military. Lakewood is a special town with a lot to offer, and I want to use my experience to improve everything that I can.
What do you hope to accomplish and what are your priorities?
Based on input from residents, the most important issues are road maintenance and safety, lake and forest preservation and emergency response.
Having four seasons of outdoor recreation supports local businesses. It is also important to have town leaders who everyone can trust and are working ethically and hard for their community.
How would you involve the public in decisions?
I would start with talking to the people with knowledge or concerns on the topic. For topics that would affect most citizens, we would conduct a poll. Lastly, I am envisioning a digital newsletter that would highlight important topics and the process the public will use to express their opinions
