PESHTIGO – The City of Peshtigo is officially launching “Get the Weeds Outta Here!,” a community campaign to fund a goal of $282,000 for a mechanical aquatic weed harvester for the Peshtigo Flowage.
The harvester will keep navigation channels, public launches, swimming areas and emergency access routes open — so families, anglers, paddlers and first responders can move safely and easily all season long.
The city is kicking off this campaign with a big thank-you to early donors Tom and Joanne Reis from the River Pub and Peshtigo Fire Tower Run race director Dawn Lepinski — who each contributed $1,000 to get the project rolling. In true Peshtigo fashion, Tom and Joanne have also started a friendly challenge: they’re inviting local businesses and neighbors to match or beat their gift.
“This is a practical, non-chemical solution our residents asked for,” said Mayor Katie Berman.
“Every dollar helps us keep the Flowage open, safe and welcoming for everyone — from school groups and recreation users to visiting families and lifelong locals.”
To donate by check, make it payable to the City of Peshtigo – Weed Harvester Fund (City Hall). Those answering Tom and Joanne’s challenge should note “River Pub Challenge.”
