Dieter Gaiser of Macomb passed away November 2, 2024 after 84+ wonderful years of life.
Dieter was born in Bad Urach, Germany on November 9, 1939 to Paul and Olga (nee Duerr) Gaiser. On July 17, 1965 he married Helga (nee Eisenheim) in Chicago, Illinois. Together they had three beautiful children.
Dieter was a Middle-Ages-History Buff and especially loved all Norse and Nibelungen Mythology. But also anything related to the Neandertaler, Prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, or Germanic history. You name it, and he would recite facts and figures only other history buffs would or could probably appreciate. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and nature in general; he was a conservationist “before it was even invented!” Dieter was a true problem solver — his immense patience helped him resolve almost anything. He was open-minded, non-judgemental, and honest in all dealings. Dieter was the ultimate family-man.
Prior to moving to Michigan, he and his wife owned Nu-Life Awards & Sporting Goods for almost 30 years in Marinette, Wisconsin. He was active in Rotary and its International Exchange Program; was on several bowling leagues due to his business; started the Marinette/Menominee Youth Soccer Program, serving as its president for 25 years; was the ad-hoc men’s soccer coach at UW Marinette, and also an active player for the Marinette Lumberjacks in the 1970’s.
After retiring, Dieter and his loving wife of 59 years moved to Michigan where he became involved with Schlaraffia-Detroitia (men’s German literary/cultural club); GBU Saxonia-Rheingold Mixed Chorus; a bowling league and the German-American Cultural Club (GACC).
Dieter was so kind, patient and calm even a bird once landed on his shoulder. He had a charming dry wit, even chuckling over his own jokes. He loved life itself and totally immersed himself into whatever he was undertaking! He had the ability to find goodness and positivity in all situations.
Beloved husband (of Helga); loving father of Dirk Gaiser and Gudrun “Gundi” (Richard) Gerhardt of Macomb, MI and Elke (Holger Spieker) Gaiser-Spieker of Germany; adored grandfather of Alyssa Spieker, Atlas Gerhardt, Katrina Gerhardt, Liv Spieker (Germany); cherished brother of Karin (Guenther) Raiser, Martin (Martha) Gaiser and the late Roswita Gaiser of Germany. Dieter is also survived by many extended family members here and abroad.
Dieter touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all of us.
Burial at sea in Lake Erie is planned for the coming spring.
