David Junion

Posted

David Junion, 78, formerly of Pound, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, after a long battle with Diabetes and Congestive Heart Failure. He was the son of Elmer and Betty Junion, born on April 3, 1946.

Dave's life started with a wonderful Catholic education, first at SS Peter and Paul grade school, followed by Premontre High School in Green Bay, and continued his education at St. Norbert College in De Pere, where he made life-long friendships with classmates Father Jude Lucier and Father David Komatz and Deacon Ken.

Dave was drafted into the US Army in 1965 receiving his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After leaving Fort Campbell, he went to Fort Polk in Louisiana for Advanced Infantry Training. After his training, Dave was sent over to Vietnam as an Infantry Soldier. He was stationed with the 25th Infantry Division "The Wolfhounds", in Vietnam. Dave earned many Combat citations, his awards for heroism in action, his other many state side awards, which made all of us very proud of him. Dave obtained the Rank of Sergeant while fighting in the "Tet Offensive" in 1967 and was a squad leader in these difficult times. Dave was Honorably Discharged in 1973 and enjoyed life long friendships with Tommy Swafford, Louie Nordt, and Airborne Ron Kowalski, who served with him in Nam. Dave was very active in many veterans organizations; Memberships in American Legion Post 11, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2037, Vietnam Vets American Chapter 224, and Disabled American Veterans. Dave was employed for several years in the Green Bay area, working for Super Value Warehouse, Sentry Foods, and Taylor Creek. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office, becoming the Postmaster in Townsend from 1982 to 1997, and retired due to health problems.

Dave was very profound in his beliefs, in God, and the Mother of Perpetual Help, who helped him through his life. Dave was a people person and was willing to help others who needed a little laugh in their life with a great sense of humor.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Betty; a brother, Stephen of Green Bay; his brothers-in-law, James White, Jerry Davis and James Owen; and his best canine friend, Louie.

He is survived by his two sisters, Sharron White-Davis of Oconto Falls and Dayne Owens of Wrightstown; one Godson, Steven David (Cheryl) Junion and family. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

There are many special friends that Dave could count on. Steve Brozak, who was there when he came out of service; Dee Sakowicz for becoming family and being there in his time of need; Eddie and Noelle, who knew what to do when the electronics were not working. Also, a thank you to his many friends who past on before him, Father Norman, Ed Sakowicz, Troy Hruska, Val Pfaff, and Pat Vaneyck.

My last wish to all is:
"live life for today with hopes for tomorrow",
your friend,
Dave
