Crivitz School Board provides staff and programming updates

Posted

CRIVITZ – The Crivitz School District Board of Education gathered on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and marked the beginning of the new school year.

Superintendent Kelly Robinson thanked the educators for all of the effort they have put in already during this new year, “I would like to recognize the teachers who have put in a lot of work outside of their scheduled hours to prepare for the school year. With the construction at both buildings, this year is different again. The staff has worked hard and been flexible in making things work.”

Middle/high school principal Justin Lauber reported a successful start to the school year and noted that a shortened first day helped with technology distribution and schedule adjustments.

The board then recognized groups that support the district, accepting a donation of $2,750 from the Crivitz Area Woman’s Club as well as a $45,000 donation from Witt’s Piggly Wiggly.

Additionally, Robinson shared that local businesses and individuals donated funds to purchase a large video scoreboard for the middle/high school gymnasium at no cost to the district, which will generate advertising revenue for school athletics.

Community education director Julie Patefield provided an update on student news, including youth tackle football and the Studio 170 dance program. Robinson commemorated Princeton Welty, noting that grief counselors were brought into the school and that the student engagement committee organized a free hat day in his memory.

While the board voted to postpone hiring a full-time maintenance employee since the process is still underway, they did approve the slate of district volunteers and coaches as well as converting a special education paraprofessional position from part-time to full-time. This was done to fulfil Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements and provide enough classroom coverage.

Other staffing approvals included: Christina LeFave — part-time custodian; Braden Pomeroy — school-to-work custodial student; Christina Bonder — substitute regular ed paraprofessional, substitute food service employee and substitute clerical employee; and Riley Seline — varsity assistant softball volunteer coach.

Finally, Lauber announced that academic Star Screeners in English and math will be held in October. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Oct. 14 and Oct. 21.
