City of Oconto Falls discusses property detachment and legal services proposals

Posted

OCONTO FALLS – The Oconto Falls City Council began their meeting on July 14 by passing a motion to approve ordinance 26-003 regarding a portion of County I city boundary south of South Main St. north to the north side of Columbia St.

On recommendation from the planning commission, the ordinance will detach the property from the City of Oconto Falls to the Town of Stiles.

In other old business, administrator Peter Wills discussed the request for proposal of legal services for the Land Development - TID#3 expenses. Law firms being considered include Amundsen Davis; Atolles Law; Municipal Law & Litigation Group; Pruitt, Ekes & Geary S.C.; Quarles; Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.; Renning Lewis & Lacy; and VonBriesen & Roper, s.c.

Wills stated that so far, Municipal Law & Litigation Group and Pruitt, Ekes & Geary S.C. stand out as lead competitors. A motion was passed to have the mayor check the references of each group and make a decision on which firm will provide legal services to the City of Oconto Falls.

The council then discussed an MSA proposal to amend the tax increment district (TID) #3 boundaries and Project Plan - TID #3 expenses, before passing a motion to have the city administrator negotiate with an amount between $5,500 and $6,500 — as opposed to $7,500 — within the 2026 budget.

A motion was then passed to allow for schools, nonprofits and other groups to rent out the Eastside Beach Park pavilion concessions during beachtime hours. These groups will still have to make the $150 deposit and fill out the rental form.

In new business, the council passed a motion to approve a zoning change for 512 Caldwell Ave. — the senior center and related parcels — from R-2 multiple family residence district zoning to C-1 general commercial district zoning.

The council then discussed excavation permit violations and approved changes to the excavation permit and further discussed the possibility of billing the violating contractors for unresolved repairs.

Other items approved by the council included an Nsight proposal to connect the Street Department Shop to Dark Fiber for internet access and the use of boat launch funds to pay for the Oconto County Westside Beach road grading.

The council tabled a discussion on a new process of flag disposal from Piggly Wiggly bins using cutting methods as opposed to burning methods. The discussion will be held until more information is provided.

The council also reminded the public that the August council meeting has been moved to Aug. 18 instead of Aug. 11 due to the Primary Election before going into closed session.
