Carol J. “Sis” Gokey (Bretl), age 103, of Marinette, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026 in the loving care of her family. She was born November 29, 1922 in Menominee to James and Lorraine Bretl and was a lifelong area resident. Carol married George Gokey, Jr. on her birthday in 1941. In addition to raising her family, Carol worked alongside her husband in the operation of their business. She was also an avid bowler, bowling actively until age of 94. Carol was president of the M& M Women’s Bowling Association (now Tri-Cities Bowling Association) and was also a Hall of Fame member of the Association.
Carol is survived by her children, Shirley Walker, Judy and Jim Borths, Linda Schultz and Jim and Cindy Gokey; 11 grandchildren, Troy, Todd, Tricia, Jay and Kelly, Lisa, Larry, Lynn, Tori, Daniel and Traci; 23 great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Treavor, Luke, Ellie, Tanner, Kayley, Kasey, Karson, Coty, Kyle, Corey, Colten, Bradley, Brooke, Kelten, Regan, Dylan, Lily, Jaelyn, Kamdyn, Neven, Drake and Sylas; and great-great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Sailor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gokey, Jr.; sons-in-law, Larry Schultz and Greg Walker; a great-grandson, Brenyn Lawatsch; and a brother, Fr. Kenneth Bretl.
Visitation will be at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Taylor St. on Thursday, June 18th from 4 until 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 6 p.m. with Father Celestine Byekwaso as celebrant. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
