MENOMINEE, MI – Peshtigo’s offensive weapons were held in check by Menominee’s efforts on the defensive end Friday, Jan. 19 as the Maroons defended their home court with a 63-42 victory in non-conference play.
“I thought we did a really great job of keeping Will (Baxter) out of the paint,” said Menominee head coach Sam Larson. “He’s a capable scorer and slasher. We had a couple of mental breakdowns on Baxter that let him get hot but I do think that, playing over the course of 32 minutes, playing against that pressure, it makes it tough to hit the shots you usually make. I thought that was a factor tonight and that’s a credit to our guys.”
The Maroons got a game-high 25 points from Trevor Theuerkauf to go along with 11 apiece from Darrent Butler and Tanner Theuerkauf.
“Menominee’s a really good basketball team, they hang their hat on pressure and if you can’t handle that, it’s going to be a long evening. That’s what happened tonight,” said Peshtigo head coach Jason Boucher. “Menominee did what we thought they were going to do. They took the basketball out of Dominik Baxter’s hands and out of Will McMahon’s hands and make one of our young, inexperienced guys do something. And, like I said, tonight the pressure just got to us.”
Baxter finished with 18 to lead the way for Peshtigo, followed by five from Landon Haulotte and four each from McMahon and Canon Bickel.
