OCONTO – In a tough battle on a neutral field for the sectional crown, the Peshtigo High softball team couldn’t get anything done against MIshicot starter Kiran Sanford, who tossed a no-hitter to lead the Indians over the Bulldogs 2-0.
“Our goal every year is to get to this game,” said Peshtigo head coach Matt Lacoursiere. “Unfortunately today, their pitcher threw a heck of a game. They’re number one in the state for a reason, they’re 29-0 right now. But I couldn’t be more proud of our effort.”
The Bulldogs put Sanford on the hot seat plenty over the course of the game but the Mishicot starter managed to get out of trouble every time until the Indians scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to settle things.
“We had a great season,” said coach LaCoursiere. “We have a very young team, we’re starting three sophomores and two freshmen. The amount of growth we’ve had since day one, it’s flat-out amazing. The girls have worked hard, taken to coaching and they’ve performed. I’m just so proud of them. This is probably the most rewarding season I’ve had as a coach.”
