Baby Care Hope supports families across county lines

Posted

MARINETTE – Pioneer Presbyterian Church’s outreach ministry, Baby Care Hope, continues to expand its impact by helping local families with essential infant care items throughout Marinette County and Menominee County, Mich.

Founded in the fall of 2022, Baby Care Hope was created in response to a growing need for diaper assistance in the area after church members learned there was no similar local program serving families with newborns and infants. Since then, the ministry has become an important resource for parents and caregivers facing financial hardship.

The program — operated out of Pioneer Presbyterian Church at 1947 Riverside Ave., Marinette — is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provides diapers, wipes, clothing and other baby necessities at no cost. Eligible families may receive assistance once a month, for up to 12 visits during a child’s first year of life.

Families are encouraged to contact local referral partners including Marinette County WIC at (715) 732-7680, Menominee WIC at (906) 863-4451 or The Salvation Army at (715) 735-7448 for voucher referrals. Once enrolled, any family member or trusted friend may pick up diapers and wipes for the child.

Organizers note that diapers are a basic necessity, yet many families struggle to afford them. Lack of access to clean diapers can lead to health concerns such as diaper rash and infections, while also creating barriers to childcare and employment. Many childcare providers require parents to supply disposable diapers each day, making diaper access essential for working families.

In 2025 alone, Baby Care Hope distributed 53,284 diapers and 548 packages of wipes to 110 babies in the two-county area.

Families who have received assistance say the program has made a meaningful difference in their lives.

“Baby Care Hope diaper mission has been such a blessing to our family. I cannot begin to express how thankful we are to those who make this amazing opportunity possible.”

“Without this incredible program we would not have been able to make ends meet most months. Having these items available during a difficult time alleviated stress and allowed us to focus on our children,” another family shared.

The ministry is funded through Pioneer Presbyterian Church’s popular Presbyterian Peanuts fundraiser, along with gifts from community members and organizations, grants and endowment support. This year, the program also received a grant from Tri-County United Way.
