ATHELSTANE – The Town of Athelstane held their monthly town board meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 14. After approving the checks from the financial meeting, the board heard communication updates.

The board thanked Fireline Lane Bar & Grill for providing free meals to election works. They also received a thank you letter from the Wausaukee Back to School Program for the town’s donation.

Marinette County released their Hazard Mitigation Plan draft for public view, which the town board said will identify action steps to avoid damages from natural disasters.

The board was also notified that their $700 consulting bill from culvert inspections will be reimbursed.

Fire Chief Scott Durian provided a report on the fire department. The department has recently had one regular meeting and one training meeting. Their picnic brought in $28,683 in profit, which Durian thanked everyone who attended and helped with.

In other firestation news, Randy Olson was welcomed to the department.

Town Treasurer Greg Reinhardt provided the treasurer’s report. The total of all accounts for the Town of Athelstane is, as of the meeting, $524,254.02.

Finally, the board discussed an update from the State Building Inspector. A new state-wide electrical upgrade will require permit fees to install generators. The town board voted to review the building permit fee schedule.
