Posted

AMBERG – The Mullany-McTrusty American Legion Post 428 and Auxiliary held their Memorial Day service at the Amberg Cemetery.
The service began with the Wausaukee High School band marching into the cemetery before commander Harold Bright welcomed all in attendance and explained the circle of flags were borrowed from families in honor of fallen Amberg veterans.

The Auxiliary ladies had put flags on the gravesites of over 200 veterans in the cemetery.

Chaplain Dennis Elfstrom gave the opening prayer and the band played the “Star Spangled Banner.” Judge Morrison gave an exceptional speech about veterans over the 250 years of America. Dennis Elfstrom and Auxiliary member Marge Brabender laid the wreath on the Legion stone. The band of 19, under the direction of Madison Bjorkman, played “America.”

The firing squad gave a salute to the veterans led by sergeant-at-arms Ron Schwartz and the band played taps. The firing squad also included Denis DeJardin, treasurer Richard Roofers, Bob Mathis and Hugh Guy. The color guard included Chuck Fick with the legion flag and George Kloppenberg with the American flag.

Commander Bright gave the closing word and chaplain Elfstrom gave the closing prayer. All were invited to a lunch at the St. Agnes Church hall.
