Amberg Historical Society biennial ghost town tour

Posted

AMBERG – The Amberg Historical Society will be conducting its biennial ghost town tour to two early settlements in northern Marinette County. The guided  car pool tour will leave the Amberg museum at promptly 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 and proceed to Phillippsburg in Section 7, Town of Athelstane (NE) and then on to Taylor Rapids in Section 10, Town of Silver Cliff (N).

Chuck and Carol Fick, members of the Amberg Historical Society, in the costume and character of the Reverend Seneca Primely and his wife, will greet visitors from the little cemetery located on the former Charles Fugate farm in Taylor Rapids. Reverend Primely and his wife, Mabel, lived in Taylor Rapids from 1919 to 1936. On the visit participants will learn how the settlement came to be, about life there in the teens, 20’s and 30’s and why it disappeared almost instantly.

While their existence of these settlements was short lived they had a very significant impact on the history and current economics of Marinette County.

For more information or with questions call Chuck Fick at (715) 923-0228 or Mike Churchill at (608) 719-2869.Amberg Historical Society biennial ghost town tour
