MARINETTE – Marinette County Health and Human Services - ADAPT announces the next Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) Family Educational Series open to the public. This series is developed to address the growing concerns in the community related to the devastating impact that substance use has had on individuals, families and the economic prosperity of our community.
The AODA Family Educational Series has been developed to address three important issues associated with substance use: prevention, intervention and treatment. This program can be used as an adjunct to young people who have been cited for underage drinking, substance use, violations in school, family members who are concerned about a loved one’s substance use, individuals who are struggling with their own substance use or treatment professionals who are looking for resources to help educate their clients about the dynamics of this life-threatening disease.
This series is also for medical and behavioral health professionals interested in learning more about the dynamics of Substance Use Disorders.
This series will begin on Sept. 30, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will run through Nov. 4, for a total of six weeks. All sessions will be held in the basement conference room at 2500 Hall Ave., Marinette. No one under 18 years of age will be allowed without parents or legal guardian. It is strongly recommended that all family members attend, excluding children under the age of 12.
The first session will be about disease concept of substance dependence on Sept. 30, session two will be about progression of dependence on Oct. 7, session three will be able family aspects of substance dependence on Oct. 14, session four will be about treatment of substance dependence on Oct. 21, session five will be about relapse prevention on Oct. 28 and the last session will be on community support on Nov. 4.

Space will be limited and available on a first come basis. There will be no cost to the participants. Participants will be expected to attend all six sessions to be considered eligible for Certificate of Completion.
