Titans Marquardt/Kristoff Top Peninsula Honors List

The Peninsula Conference has released their All-Conference billings for the 2022 season and the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Titans came away with a hefty share of the honors bestowed this season. Along with their 5 first team spots the Titans were honored with both the Offensive Player of the Year and the Defensive player of the year awards. It was senior running back Sam Marquardt who took the offensive POY and  senior linebacker Josh Kristoff who secured the defensive POY.
Lena/STAA co head coach Dale Lange was extremely impressed with the squad he coached this season saying,“The biggest thing I take away from coaching these guys is that we played together as a team. We had some outstanding individual efforts but they all happened within the team. When you get all your players playing as a team good things are going to happen no matter the sport. We had great success this year because of this. These guys we had on the all conference list all played a huge part. When things got bad nobody got down on one another, they just all kept each other up.”
Lange went on to talk about his players of the year saying, “Sam was a fantastic leader both on the field and off of it. He’s a great guy to be around. He has excellent skills as a running back and did an amazing job for us. A lot of the guys looked to him as a leader and he led as a true leader.”
“Josh got the same honor last year,” said Lange. “Just another great leader on our defense. He’s an excellent gentlemen out there. He worked hard during  the offseason, which is a major trait to have to be a good football player or any athlete. If you keep training and never stop. He is very coachable just like all the other guys on this team.”
Joining the players of the year on the first team squad were three other players. Anthony Seefeldt took a spot on the team for the Titans for his steadfast play on the offensive line.
“We get to have Anthony again next year as the base of our line,” said Lange. “He was our base this year and you get a guy like Anthony on your line you have a guy who can call blocks and call out defenses. Just a true leader on our line who never slacked off, not for a single play. Along with Anthony These linemen did a great job creating opportunities for our run game and when we passed they really did a great job keeping people out.”
At defensive back one of the selections was made for senior Ethan Braley.
“Ethan is another super hard worker on this team,'' said Lange. “He was a quiet leader on the field who did his leading by example. When we would put him on their person, Ethan always did a super job shutting down plays. He came up and made a lot of tackles this season.”
Taking a spot on the defensive line was the Titans’ senior Sidney Sylvester. Lange took time to make note of the effort Sylvester put in this season saying, “Sidney probably was the most improved of our seniors this year, He came in last year and put in some serious hours of work and really improved his skills. We found a position form at defensive end that he just excelled at. Just another great guy on this team.”
Gillett bagged two spots on the first team this season with the selection of sophomore Jesse DeBauch at quarterback and junior Brandon DeBauch at offensive end.
