Menominee Legion Auxiliary Lays 270 Flags for Wreaths for Veterans

Menominee Mayor Jean Stegeman issued a Proclamation on Saturday, Dec. 3, and recognized "Wreaths for Veterans Day" in the City of Menominee; Mayor Stegeman spoke on the importance of the memorial ceremony to honor, and remember veterans in the Veterans' Memorial Section, Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
The approximately 270-wreath laying ceremony at veteran gravesites was organized by Jane Raygo, Master of Ceremonies, and "Wreaths for Veterans" chairman, Menominee American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 146.  Jane reflected as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 16 years ago, and how the program began with 50 wreaths similar to "Wreaths Across America" at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.  Since the VFW Auxiliary dissolved, ALA Unit 146 then appointed Jane to do the ceremony.  An appreciation was extended to the following at the ceremony:  American Legion Post 146 Family (Legionnaires, ALA, SALS), DAV, Amvets, Civil Air Patrol, Veterans' Council, Mayor Jean Stegeman, and City Hall members, Reverend Brian Gerber, Resurrection Church, (blessing the wreaths), Bill Smith, Chaplain, Amvets, (Opening Prayer), Brody Van Eyck, SALS, (Pledge of Allegiance), Julie Erickson, Music chairman, ALA Unit 146 with members (Star Spangled Banner), 20-Year Club (gun salute), Gary Gladue, Post 146, (guest speaker), Riverside Cemetery employees -  Michelle Salter, secretary, and John Jasenovsky, Foreman; children Jax and Jade, assisted their dad.
Jane Raygo encouraged all volunteers placing balsam wreaths on the grave stones to say the veteran's name aloud, and take a moment to thank them for their service to our country.  Gary Gladue-Army veteran, Patty Violet-Navy veteran, Gary Scholtz-Air Force veteran, Mayor Stegeman-Marine veteran, and Bill Smith-Coast Guard, placed the first wreaths on the veteran sites; volunteers completed the placement.
